I bought my pre 2 days ago, as soon as it was available in Canada. The salesman who sold it to me mentioned that if you pull the battery you will most likely fry your pre. The first day and a half the phone worked great. Unfortunalely I put my pre to bed last night but it wouldn't wake up this morning. No backlit black screen, no nothin, just simply would not turn on. After about 2 hours on hold with Bell customer service I finally reached a tech support guru who had the brilliant idea to pull the battery out. Pulled the battery out, waited 30 seconds battery back in and voila!! Pre repaired. Guess the salesman didn't know what he was talking about!

You should try to "brick" it again to see what caused it.
